What is evangelism?  If you Google it, you will find that it is defined as “spreading the Christian Gospel through public preaching or personal witness.”  Don’t we ALL have a “personal” witness?  Can the majority of us, communicate in some form or another?  Notice, I didn’t say, “could we preach a smooth, inspiring sermon.”, but can we simply communicate?

Our vision is simple.  Care for people as far as you are willing to reach.  There is no prescribed method.  Jesus just said “GO”, baptize, teach.  Go and love others into the faith.  Jesus said that the greatest commandment was to love the Lord God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself.  Do you love yourself enough to want your soul to go to Heaven?  You should want that for your neighbor.

How could you show love to your neighbors?

First you would need to MEET your neighbors or make contact with your neighbors.  This could be as simple as passing out a flyer to all your neighbors inviting them to a barbeque.  You don’t have to start out with “If you were to die today, would you go to Heaven or Hell?”  Just make contact.  At the bottom of every flyer you could have just a couple of simple questions that could start communication.  Is there anything you need help with?  Anything we can pray about for you?  We look forward to hearing from you!  We will make it easy, download this example flyer and make it your own!

Once contact is made, try to get to know them.  Listen more than talk.  Share stories.  Make a friend.  It is nearly impossible for someone who has the Spirit of God living inside of them, for Jesus not to come up in a simple conversation.  Do not go in with a militaristic mission to convert the person to what you believe.  Simply love them with the love of Jesus and allow the Holy Spirit to minister to them.  He can do that best when you get out of the way.

When you show them you care, and they recognize your love for Jesus, you can extend an open invitation to come over on Tuesday night (or whenever) where a few friends get together for a Bible study, to pray for each other, to talk about the last week and encourage each other, whatever you feel led to say.

That is simple.  Before you know it, you have a house church.

There are a lot of resources out there to help you, but the hardest part is taking the first step.  Shake off the nerves and just start with a flyer!  If nobody responds, just continue with your flyer ministry and we are willing to bet someone will eventually email you with a need you can pray about with them.
